You can just have a rest in Elva Municipality
Since its beginnings, the beautiful pine town of Elva has been a popular holiday destination, with visitors coming from near and far. Elva is a 20-minute drive from Tartu and a two-and-a-half hour train ride from Tallinn.
There are wonderful hiking trails waiting to be discovered in Elva Municipality. The most popular hiking trail in the region, Väike Väerada, is special because of the wooden sculptures inspired by Estonian fairy tales and designed by local artists. Elva Ürgoru hiking trail is a 15.5 km long trail in the Elva Nature Reserve with a changing terrain, including the Vitipalu Adventure Trail, where you are accompanied by the mysterious glances of fairies and fascinating tree figures, while pokus wait for you by the stream.
Europe’s best sports city, Elva, offers plenty of opportunities for a sporty pastime. The new Elva Sports Hall, which offers excellent opportunities to practise several sports on three different floors, was built in the town for active holidays. The most popular in the Elva Adventure Park is the 400 m aerial ride over Lake Verevi and back. Health, hiking and orienteering trails, shooting ranges and archery ranges are also waiting for you at the Tartu County Recreational Sports Centre.
If you’re feeling peckish after a day of adventuring, there are a number of exciting places to eat in Elva Municipality. Wabrik is a restaurant and pizzeria established in the heart of the former Elva Bread Factory. Most of the food on the menu of Wabrik is cooked over a live fire. BBQ meat cooked for 12 hours in apple wood smoke and pizzas cooked in an authentic wood-fired pizza oven have become crowd favourites. Elva Keegel ja Resto is a meeting place for the big and small. There you will find good food and a cosy atmosphere and you can also try your hand at bowling. In the heart of Puhja, you will find a lovely family café-restaurant Käsu Hansu. The interior design is inspired by the writer Käsu Hansu – simple, elegant, yet minimalist enough.
Elva Municipality is also home to some of the most unique museums in Estonia. The Musical Instrument Museum in Rõngu has more than 3000 exhibits, including different musical instruments as well as other fascinating items from other fields. For example, in addition to the instruments, you can see and study speakers, microphones, amplifiers and effect blocks from different eras. In the Hellenurme Mill Museum, you take a step back into the past and learn about the life of Estonia’s last water-powered mill. For nature lovers, the Lake Museum Akva:rium on the shores of Lake Võrtsjärv is a must – it’s main exhibits are Estonian freshwater fish, as well as a variety of fishing gear, lake research equipment, etc. A new and exciting attraction at the Lake Museum is the virtual reality experience, where you can experience the underwater world of Lake Võrtsjärv.
The beautiful shore of Lake Võrtsjärv offers opportunities for private and peaceful family holidays. Kiviranna Holiday Home is the perfect place for this – a lake holiday right on the shores of Lake Võrtsjärv. Kiviranna Holiday Home offers accommodation in three holiday cottages and a luxury apartment with lake view. Another place for a relaxing holiday is Vehendi Motel, where the newly completed sauna complex has a hot tub, a barrel sauna and barbecue facilities on the roof terrace. Verevi Motel, which is set in a picturesque pine forest in South Estonia, offers friendly service and cosy accommodation. The Verevi Motel also offers a wide range of options for an active holiday. Waide Motel is like a little village all of its own, with a number of small buildings surrounded by greenery.
